3is Internationalization Workshop In Ethiopia
The 3is Workshop on Internationalization of Higher Education, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on May 21st & 22nd, 2024, and led by University of Girona (UdG) and University of Gondar (UG), has been a remarkable event that fostered a strong sense of collaboration and community. It was filled with insightful discussions and collaborative efforts, where each participant played a crucial role in shaping the outcomes.
On Day 1, the workshop began with a courtesy call to the participating Consortium members, chaired by Yenesew Alene Belew and Solomon Lingerih from the University of Gondar (UoG), which included an institutional welcome and introduction to the workshops. A session on the framework for the internationalization of higher education, chaired by Jaume Guia from the University of Girona (UdG), followed, where participants discussed the applicability and inclusiveness of the conceptual framework for internationalization. The discussions continued with guidelines for self-assessment and the design of future action plans, chaired by Alicia Betts (UdG). Participants explored the guidelines for self-assessment and planning for future action plans. The afternoon sessions included an examination of internationalization through learning and teaching mobilities, chaired by Yenesew Alene Belew (UoG), and a discussion on internationalization at home through curriculum design, chaired by Alicia Betts.
On Day 2, the focus shifted to the internationalization of research, chaired by Jaume Guia (UdG), where participants shared research internationalization practices and their future potential. Afterwards, the discussions focused on internationalization through community and industry engagement, chaired by Yenesew Alene Belew (UoG). The afternoon sessions were about internationalization through institutional engagement, chaired by Alicia Betts (UdG), and the day concluded with a closing session, chaired by Jaume Guia (UdG), Dr. Adugna Abebe and Yenesew Alene Belew (UoG) for all the Consortium members present, where participants shared final reflections and suggestions for the project’s next steps.
Overall, the 3is Workshop on Internationalization of Higher Education served as a platform where all participants exchanged insights, experiences and ideas on reshaping Higher Education in Eastern Africa and creating action plans to develop and start implementing their internationalization strategies.
