We believe in change

3is aims to strengthen Higher Education Institutions in remote Somalia, Ethiopia, and Kenya regions through an innovative capacity-building approach. The project empowers participating African universities to design impactful policy instruments and action plans, focusing on internationalization, inclusiveness, educational innovations, academic excellence, community and industry outreach, and regional integration.

3is will last 24 months, starting from December 2023 and it’s a Capacity Building for Higher Education (CBHE) project under the Key Action 2 of the Erasmus+ programme, funded by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA).

Internationalization

Internationalization is crucial for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) worldwide, but often needs to be addressed in remote and least-developed areas, hindering their pursuit of excellence. To address this, these institutions need support from experienced partners, staff mobilities, and collaborations with European and other experienced institutions abroad.

Inclusiveness

Many HEIs in the African participating countries lack sound inclusiveness policies, presenting an opportunity for partnerships with experienced universities to enhance awareness and understanding of diversity’s value.

Educational innovations & academic excellence

Assistance will be provided to less experienced HEIs and smaller-scale actors in remote areas of Somalia, Ethiopia, and Kenya. The aim is to bridge the gap with more capable, accessible, and experienced counterparts, focusing on staff development and academic excellence.

Community & industry outreach

Eastern African HEIs have some experience in community and industry linkages but aim for stronger global collaborations. The goal is to enhance cross-sectoral partnerships, leveraging cultural and socio-economic nuances. Learning from European partners will foster mutual capacity development.

Regional integration

In the participating Eastern African countries, intra-regional mobility for students and staff is notably low, hindered by barriers. European institutions recognize the value of such mobility in fostering integration, peace, and development, emphasizing its importance for Higher Education modernization.
