3is project at the Commission for University Education
On 29 May 2025, the 3is project team visited the Commission for University Education (CUE) in Nairobi, Kenya. This critical meeting provided an opportunity to share the project’s ongoing impact and explore pathways for further collaboration and policy alignment between African and European higher education systems.
The visit, hosted by Prof. Mike Kuria and Dr. David Muthaka, focused on sharing progress in the 3is project’s efforts to enhance higher education across Somalia, Ethiopia, and Kenya. Central to the discussions was the theme of advancing a system of mutual recognition of qualifications and learning outcomes between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Europe and Africa. Such efforts align with the 3is project’s goal of fostering cross-continental academic cooperation and building more inclusive, innovative, and internationally competitive universities.
The meeting highlighted the project’s key achievements to date and its role in strengthening academic ties through inclusive international partnerships and capacity-building initiatives. Both parties expressed a strong commitment to sustaining the momentum of this collaboration, recognizing the vital role of regulatory agencies like the CUE in ensuring quality and relevance in higher education.
The 3is project extends its sincere appreciation to Prof. Mike Kuria and Dr. David Muthaka for their warm hospitality and invaluable insights during the meeting. Looking ahead, the 3is team remains dedicated to working with the CUE and other partners to shape a higher education landscape that is dynamic, interconnected, and responsive to the needs of both African and European communities.
